Two new homes can be quoted very differently. The main factors are:

Slab size and perimeter — most systems are priced largely by the treated area and the length of the slab edge, so a bigger footprint costs more.

Why doing it before the slab is the cheap option

The single biggest way to control cost is timing. Under-slab components are designed to go in while the soil is still open, before the concrete is poured. Try to add comparable protection afterwards and the job means cutting and lifting concrete — far more expensive, more disruptive, and rarely as effective.
